Snow

I forgot how fastidious snow is,
skinny line-ups of it balancing on each branch,
erasing the debris of the city
making it quiet and still.

They were making snowflakes at your daycare
so I kissed you goodbye
on your hand like we always do

and on my way home
I thought about the daintiness of each flake,
all that impossible etching on ice,
too tiny to see.

I wondered about you and your sister,
what parts of you
do I look at
and miss.
