Their faith in us

The traffic is stopped
and we are all craning our necks
as if seeing why
will make it go faster.

I make eye contact
with the driver beside me
and we bond with overly dramatic
looks of frustration,

which feels good
in a team kind of way.

The cars move again
until our two cars
come to a stop

as a second pair geese
cross the middle of the street,
waddling and trusting
that we will wait.

Their faith in us
suddenly makes me want to cry
and I look back over at the driver beside me
in his suit and expensive car

and we bond again,
this time with watery smiles,
which feels
so much better.
