but it is harder
than that
it is the lightness
waiting underneath

is heaved off
it is maintenance
a daily practice
of small choices
open the curtains
floss
leave a big tip
you think happy people have no doubts
but they just barge onward
hoping the voices
can’t catch up
so fake it if you have to
jump up and down
for the roundness of the moon
put effort into it
sweat a little
for your soul
part your mouth
into a smile
though you feel
you might crack
and anyway
what makes you think
it is wrong
to be
so raw.
