A cure for laziness

I felt lazy until I remembered
what I did in the last hour.

My heart made enough energy
to raise a ton of steel
three feet off the ground,

and I took a thousand breaths.

My liver worked like a dog,
to be honest,
and neither of us complained.

And when I look out the window,
my eyes take in more detail
than the biggest telescope.

I lie back on the couch again
just as my daughter asks for a snack.

I tell her I’m far too busy,
which makes her laugh,
but my mouth
is working too hard to reply
as it makes its next
two-cup serving
of saliva.
