The Greek god named Laura

When we name our storms,
I can’t help but imagine they are gods,
like Zeus and Poseidon,
churning up the skies and seas
in a competition
for who is most powerful,
flinging us about like lint.
For instance, Laura,
the latest deity to push
the ocean onto shore.
Who was she trying to conquer
when she ripped the roof
off our world?
As for Marco,
I know the next story is yours,
but as you sharpen the wind
into a weapon,
I ask you to consider this
as your legacy instead:
the god who deployed
the immeasurable power
of mercy.
