An uncomplicated confidence

You tell me that you don’t need
to go to school
because you already know
all about garbage trucks
and how to count
to eighteen hundred million and two

and I don’t tell you
that you will love it
or that there is so much to learn

you will be pushed over the edge
soon enough
when your small world
will get eaten by a bigger one

and I will miss your uncomplicated confidence
the way you are smug and innocent
at the same time

but there is nothing I can do
to stop life
from one day undressing
in front of you

flaunting a vastness
that no matter how hard you try
you will never
have time to know.
