Because today you said yup and nope
like a teenager
because I tap danced across an outdoor stage
in the cold evening wind
and introduced you
loud and glitzy
like it was the 1940s
like you were famous
because we fed pomegranates before bed
to Sherry Dodo
your imaginary friend
because your dad and I started a happy list
because sometimes
we forget
because none of this
would make its way
into the flesh of my remembering
they are like the drops of rain
I used to watch as a kid
as they hit the car window
zigzagging their way down the glass
a quick show
and then absorbed
into the flood.
