A hundred years ago
lobster was considered
a poor man’s meat
in some states
it was against the law to feed them
to your servants
an abuse of domestic help
insects of the sea
like rolling up your sleeves to dig into
spider.
I wonder what I cherish
just because someone told me to
perhaps papaya
arguably the visual appeal
of a tumour
not quite sweet
the lumpy cousin
of mango
poor taste buds
so easily wooed
by hullabaloo
a flashy price tag
is all it takes
to bribe them into believing
they’re happy.
