Some truths

You are at the perfect intersection
of innocence and certainty
where you meet questions
with adventure

this morning I ask you
the names of the toys in the bath
and you tell me they are Daddy and Bear
though they are both plastic girl dolls
then you add
as though it will explain everything
that they are going very fast
to buy soup

you know how big the moon is
why sometimes we cry
what zebras dream about when they nap

and when you don’t answer
you never say
I don’t know

it’s always
I can’t say

as though you do know
but some truths
are too big
for words.
