Samantha’s picks: Mother’s Day poems
In honour of Mother’s Day, I’ve chosen three poems for the occasion. I wrote these poems about what I’ve learned and discovered through motherhood. I’ve been flattered and delighted to discovered that other readers, especially moms, have connected with them, too.
For those of you celebrating an amazing woman on Sunday, perhaps you’ll pass these words on to tell her how much you adore her.
A celebration of motherhood, poetry, books and radio
A few weeks ago, I taped an interview for CBC Radio’s North by Northwest with Sheryl MacKay. I read a few of my poems and we talked about how this adventure in writing has evolved. I tune in to Sheryl’s show every weekend, so what a treat to to explore my journey as a poet with her. Of course, I had to mention how loyal, generous and kind you all have been to me in the past 400 and some days. It’s hard to believe it, but I’ll be writing my 500th poem on Monday!

There’s a new InstaPoem
Since I launched the InstaPoem in February, more than 800 people have written their own poem using the app. I’ve had tweets from the Phillipines, received an emotional email from Kenya, and spotted Facebook posts from DC. I hoped it would resonate with people but all the moving feedback has been truly overwhelming.
My best story ever on Definitely Not The Opera

In a little departure from writing poetry, I replied to a national radio show’s call for “your best story ever.” For me, that had to be the time when I went backpacking in Greece looking for an epic travel story, and got myself into a bit of a jam. Let’s just say I was young and not so wise…
