Judith Brock
In the course of her lifetime, it would suit Judith Brock fine to be a jazz club singer, an author, rockstar, clown, motivational speaker, poet, mother, lover, photographer, lion tamer, olympian, comedian, and friend.
A love note
A love note lingered
on the floor,
discarded moments after
so carefully written,
When eager fingers
precisely
pressed
pencil to
paper,
paused only to ask
“How do you spell ‘thought’?
then
“How do you spell ‘beautiful’?
This one
penned
by the babe,
the blonde and blue,
freckles on pug nose,
tender smile which
crept across an angel face.
I readied myself
for the sonnet
that would
convey
the beatings
of this little boy heart
for his mama.
But as I stooped to read,
and bashful eyes met mine,
Alas!
The sonnet was not for me.
Twinkle blue eyes
had been smitten by
some other;
‘beautiful’
was for
another.
I gathered that precious
to myself
and whispered
“That ‘beautiful’ girl
is very lucky
to have a heart
such as yours”.
His heart swelled
and mine
broke
just
a
little.
