Janice MacLeod is the blogger behind After the Artist's Way. It is her account of how she left the daily grind of writing junk mail to travel and find a better way of life. Now, she is burning through the junk mail karma with her Letter of the Month subscription service, where she creates and mails painted letters about her life abroad. She lives with her partner Christophe in Paris. He plays her love songs on her guitar.

Perfect love song

Her guitar sits quietly in the corner most days
She doesn’t play as often as she did
Or should
Yet it’s her most treasured companion
Traveling with her
Never leaving her side
An inconspicuous trophy
Of all the beautiful souls
Who have come into her life
To play for her
Each song accompanied by
Wine, soft eyes and hope
A repertoire of romantic moments
She loved them wholly and forever then
And when their songs hit their final note
She mourned fully with silent wails
Now their oils, prints and skin dust
Leave a priceless patina
So if the air grows stale
And there is nothing to do but wait
For a gust of fresh notes
She gazes at her guitar
And hears the perfect love song
Once more

You Mel Heth and Pete are priceless patinas. No, not the expensive scarves. Those are pashminas.

It’s supposed to be, you’re a priceless patina, which is Italian for heavenly outdoor skating rink where the sun always shines and lovers hold hands and drink dark hot chocolate.
