I lay beside her warm little body last night
as the fever pulled her from side to side
like a puppet
she woke up feeling better
but we decided to keep her home
will I die
she asked us
no, you’re just a bit sick
can I watch Paw Patrol
she asked us
yes, you can watch a bit
and as I shuffled the puzzle of my busy day
I envied that peacefulness
I must have had when I still believed
someone else had all the answers.
