Where memories go when we die

What will remain
after the relentless tide of time
scrapes away our memories of today

will I remember how you spelled your name
with Scrabble letters
and then put fourteen letters in a row
announcing that you had spelled mom

will I remember those griddle cookies
the first face you ever drew
the way your dad assured us he could sound like an elephant
but what came out sounded more
like an elephant drowning

I like to think
after the moments dissolve from my grip
they land in a tidy album in the sky
and when I die
I will lounge about for days
remembering how much we laughed
on that ordinary day.
