The secrets

I whisper nonsense
into your feet
and it makes you laugh
so that you can barely stand it
but you kick at the air again
wanting more.

They say you won’t remember this
but the mind is not the only scribe

I tell your feet to hold onto these kisses
same with your belly
and the fattest spot on your cheeks

just in case there comes a day
when you are older
when you are hurting

your limbs will release the secrets
I buried into them

and you will wonder
why you suddenly feel
so strong.

S-weeeeeet! I smiled from coast to coast, through the desert too, with a enough morning dew in the old eyes to wet a wombat, and an acorn for an Adam’s apple. Felt as fuzzy as a young lamb in an electrical rain storm. That one’s perfect, like all the rest, and a lucky little fella indeed! Gosh damn! Maybe we could hook up sometime, share some hash browns and whatnot, if you’re ever in Arkansas, just slightly southwest of Arkadelphia, on the I-40 West. Ask Big Flo or anyone at Bubba’s All-Night Truck Stop and Family Store. They all know me (or wish they did – ha!) and can point you right. Darling, don’t you never stop writing these little miracles, y’hear?

Your words resonated so deep in my heart.
My daughter was my center when she was small (she still occupies a large part of my center), and so many of my special memories of our times together have already faded from her world.

Cherish every moment. They really do grow up fast.

Samantha, I love how you share the pieces of your life so vividly through your words.

Your words gave a name to what I do with my grandchildren. This is so precious. Thank you. Sally
