I may never read George Eliot

I am not opposed
to getting older

the loose flesh
the dryness
the crackling of the knees

it’s the running out
of time
that I resent

the resignation that I may never
read George Eliot
learn to work with clay
start a school

the exquisiteness of youth
is in the flippancy of choice
try this
try that
why not
there is a lifetime ahead
of feasts.
